Evening on the Danforth

Low Key Portraits
While learning how to do lighting techniques with Toronto Photographic, I got a sense of how a photography studio works. As a beginner, I sometimes forget to research in advance on how to direct a model. Certainly a Freeman’s magazine for tuxedos or GQ would have helped here. Eliot was great to work with and came up with ideas of his own.

During the photoshoot, water started dripping from the balcony above. A sense of play kicked in as Eliot pretends to be drinking the water. Thankfully, the remote on my camera allowed me to capture this moment. Also, I accidentally triggered a shot in one of the balcony scenes as I was trying to focus my camera. You will notice Eliot’s front side highlighted because the flash was not positioned in the right spot. Even accidents can be a good thing. I like that photo because Eliot looks so natural as the city behind him is lit up.
